Welcome

Dear colleagues,

it is a pleasure to invite you to the 3rd SOHC 2020 (Swiss Oncology & Hematology Congress) which will take place from 19 to 21 November 2020 at The Circle, Zurich Airport . Nota bene, it will be one of the first congresses in the newly built The Circle. A Swiss congress with a varied programme, including the annual meetings of the Swiss Society of Haematology and Medical Oncology, the semi-annual meeting of the SAKK and other professional societies and organisations. The aim of the congress is to present scientific work in the field of oncology and haematology, to provide a platform for further education and training, but also to create space for exchange and networking. Health policy and socially relevant topics related to tumor diseases will also be addressed. This year the national strategy against cancer commissioned by the Swiss confederation and cantons will end, and results will be presented.

The theme of this congress is "Equal Access". This refers to the equality of access that we all strive for. Unfortunately, the situation is still not good, the number of "off-label" drugs continues to increase, the sometimes erratic granting of cost credits continues to cause difficulties and it will take considerable joint effort to correct this. The ideal of equitable access to resources must be upheld and the pressure will increase rather than decrease in the coming years.

A large number of new therapies are at different stages of development. In B cell lymphoma and acute lymphocytic leukemia, cellular therapies with chimeric antigen receptor modified T cells have started. Further cellular therapies are under development. Numerous new molecules with different targets are being tested. Many of these topics will be addressed at the congress.

With this congress topic we would like to contribute to the development of these fields in Switzerland, but also to stimulate the discussion about the best possible care for haematological and oncological patients. The first two SOHC were a great success with over 1000 participants and we hope for an equally successful congress in 2020. You are invited to attend the training and scientific presentations. We are especially looking forward to the discussion.

We are looking forward to welcome you in Zurich.

Best regards

Prof. Dr. med. Jakob Passweg
